After graduating History of Art at the Catholic University in Lublin in 1976, Jan Leszczyłowski works for the state owned Antiques Shop "Desa" in Gdańsk till 1987, and has engaged in art dealing ever since.
He starts his own antiques gallery in 1989.
The studies and a long time experience have allowed him to present selected works of art from different art areas in his gallery. He feels especially close to the XVII and XVIII century European paintings and prints. Valued names of the XIX and of the beginning of the XX century, both Polish and foreign, are constantly present in the gallery. The selection of furniture and decorative art fills up the gallery's offer.
The art of China and Japan displayed is a continuation of his diploma thesis on the art of Far East and Indonesia, taken up during his studies in Holland. Jan Leszczyłowski has been a member of the "Society for Japanese Art" for many years.
As an art historian, he makes sure that all of the exposed objects of art are well looked up and studied before presenting in the offer.
The gallery's priority is to buy objects but apart from buying and selling takes works of art on consignment from people wishing to sell
The gallery carries on as well:
- advice on art preserving and renovation;
- opinion of likely value of works of art.
