Aleksander Orłowski
Urodzony 1777r. w Warszawie zmarł w 1832 r. w Petersburgu. Początki nauki to pracownia rysunku i malarstwa J.P. Norblina w jego warszawskiej pracowni a również w tzw. malarni gdzie był uczniem Bacciarellego. Brał udział w Powstaniu Kościuszkowskim, a po jego upadku wyjechał na Litwę i potem do Petersburga gdzie był rysownikiem księcia Konstantego. W 1809 roku uzyskał tytuł akademika Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Petersburgu. Od 1819 roku był członkiem Towarzystwa Naukowego w Krakowie. Przeniósł się właściwie do Rosji i jako jeden z pierwszych na tym terenie wykonywał prace graficzne techniką litografii. Tematami jego obrazów, rysunków i grafik były różne odcienie życia St. Petersburga i jego elit. Malował ich portrety i karykatury, ale też sceny rodzajowe z życia drobnych kupców i ulicznych handlarzy. Wschodni jeźdźcy – orientalne typy Czerkiesów i Kirgizów oraz sceny batalistyczne to również duża część jego twórczości.

Aleksander Orłowski
Born in Warsaw, died in St. Petersburg (1777 – 1832). Princess Isabella Czartoryska impressed by boy’s works, son of inn owner, decided to help him and introduced to the studio of J. P. Norblin who was his first master in Warsaw. He joined as a volunteer the liberation movement- Kościuszko Insurrection. After defeat of the uprising he left for Lithuania and then to St. Petersburg where was admitted into the service of Grand Duke Constantin. In 1809 St. Petersburg Art Academy awarded him with the title of Academician and in 1819 he became the member of Science Society in Krakow. He lived mostly in Russia and there as one of the first, started lithography prints which were highly appreciated. His paintings, drawings and lithography showed the life of St. Petersburg society, portraits, battle pictures, everyday life working people and the caricatures. Travelling throughout Russia was impressed by Caucasian warrior riders and depicted them.
